It's a great feeling, isn't it? To be the person who tells the best travel stories. To look around at your rapt audience and see awe, respect and that little hint of jealousy staring back at you. But then, you are one of those people who likes to do things differently aren't you? To do the things that others do, but in a way that's completely unique to you. Welcome to the ultimate bucket list, we've been expecting you...
Ultimate bucket list: The Great Wall is the culmination of 20 years developing, creating and redefining tours to China and a wealth of insider knowledge. But ultimate bucket list isn't for the everyday traveller, it's a tapestry of one-of-a-kind experiences that we've woven into an epic itinerary for someone just like you. It's ultimate luxury, it's ultimate adventure and ultimately, it's going to give you some stories that you can feel truly smug about.
Breeze through the airport and spend an indulgent couple of hours in the BA lounge before boarding your direct flight to Beijing. For the ultimate traveller its naturally First Class, so once onboard settle into that private suite and relax as you jet off for the mystical Far East.
Arrive in Beijing the next morning. You'll be met by a private guide and whisked into a private limousine in which you'll glide through the city to your hotel, boutique 'The Opposite House'.
Later, make a champagne toast to your upcoming explorations before the glittering skyline at sky bar Atmosphere, then spend the evening in Houhai, Beijing's most vibrant neighbourhood.
With a private guide to keep you filled in, spend the day intoxicated by Beijing's vast history. Start modern in Tiananmen Square, before stepping back in time amongst the labyrinthine lanes of the Forbidden City. Voyage along old city canals to the Summer Palace, and wander amongst the harmonious ensemble of lakes, gardens and palaces. Relax and refresh with tea at the luxurious 'Aman at the Summer Palace'. This evening, tuck into Beijing's signature dish, Peking Duck.
The next day, a historian will join you in your luxury car as you head out to explore the Great Wall. Sail up it in a cable car, whoosh down on a toboggan or simply walk before taking to the waters of a reservoir for the perfect view of its sinuous path across the mountains. Wave farewell to your historian and check-in at 'Commune by the Great Wall'.
The ultimate traveller never misses a trick, so enjoy sunrise over the the wall before breakfast. Drive over to Badaling airport and board a private helicopter and spend 20 minutes buzzing over the Wall for epic views, far above the crowds. Later, hike the hotel's private section of the Wall, culminating in a glass of champagne as the sun sets, the perfect aperitif to a magnificent Great Wall dinner!
The next day, depart the Commune and travel to one of the quietest and most impressive sections of the Wall - where better to enjoy a champagne picnic? Tuck in and take in the panoramas. Work off lunch with a guided hike - you can expect at times to feel like the wall is yours alone. Clamber down from the heights and into a luxury car to travel back to Beijing. Check into the 'Waldorf Astoria Beijing'.
Spend the morning dabbling with Zen at the beautiful Temple of Heaven. Meet a Tai Chi master for a private lesson in this peaceful yet powerful art. Take a lunch of contemporary cuisine at TRB Hutong, housed in a 600-year-old temple. Continue working on your inner Zen with an afternoon in the hotel spa; even the ultimate traveller needs an afternoon of luxuriance. The last supper is served at Family Li Imperial Cuisine, a tiny, exclusive establishment specialising in imperial cuisine. The ultimate Chinese meal!
The next day, that limousine will reappear to whisk you back to the airport for your return flight to London. Back in First Class let the champagne dull the end of holiday pain, and use your suite as a private space to reflect on your experiences. Touch down in London with stories on the tip of your tongue.
